We explain what is Ayurveda.
In India is Kerala, in the south of the country, the Ayurveda paradise where the serene climate, natural abundance of forests (with a large number of medicinal plants) and the cool monsoon season (from June to July, and from October to November) are ideal for a range of treatments offered by specialized and officially recognized centers, for example, to treat arthritis, nervous system or to enjoy special beauty massage for the skin and hair, based on special herbs and oils. The rainy season, from June to September, is the ideal time for Ayurvedic treatments as the atmosphere, cold, damp and dust, helps to open your pores, making your body receptive to therapy.
The ancient Ayurvedic medicine develops almost 5000 years ago from the ancient civilization of Aryans and from their sacred vedic texts from which Hinduism took origin. The term, Sanskrit, means "knowledge of life" from "Ayur", life, and "Veda". Ayurvedic preventive and curative treatments will approach the person in a holistic manner, operating on different levels, in order to restore the balance between body, mind and spirit. The modern lifestyle, environmental conditions, our improper eating habits, lack of exercise and relational tensions may create physical, emotional and spiritual imbalances causing disharmony, source of our discomfort and disease. Ayurveda seeks a balance between man and all surrounding him which is inevitably in constant interaction, aiming to recover his self-healing abilities to make him responsable for his natural state of health. According to Ayurveda, even philosophy and discipline of life, health is balance between the three bodily humors or 'doshas": Pitta, Kapha and Vata, depending from the elements present in body, mind and soul, which expresses the Cosmic Intelligence, and that, according to Ayurveda, is the idea that generated all not spiritual, included the man. Thus, the creation of the Cosmos was carried out under the control of Pitta, the maintenance under the control of Kapha, destruction under the control of Vata. According to Ayurveda, Vata, the "air that moves", corresponding to air, ether (wind), represents the movement and its anatomic location is the pelvic cavity, and specifically the large intestine and colon, and controls of nervous and circulatory system functions; Pitta, the "fire that transforms" made of fire and water (heat) is the transformation and governs the digestive and metabolic system, resides in the abdomen, in the lower part of the stomach and small intestine; Kapha, the "lush water" is water and earth (liquid), it resides in the bronchial tube and manages the endocrine and immune systems, in addition to body fluids. Man is therefore a unique combination of physical characteristics (for example those with a dominant Kapha might have thicker hair and be slower), psychological and behavioral (people with dominant Pitta are usually more aggressive) that a person preserves all his life and which influence the way he works, thinks and acts. But when the doshas are out of balance, Ayurveda takes action through a non-invasive diagnosis, studying the patient's diet, his habits, his behavior, his physical technical prescriptions and other factors, it identifies the dominant dosha and it balances the doshas between them. Ayurvedic healing therapies provide a suitable diet, medical herbs, physical exercises yogasana and meditation, massage and offer social behaviors and positive relationships.
