India and Nepal
An interesting itinerary to discover the most famous cities of NorthIndia from the capital, Delhi, to the bizarre Jaipur, with its splendid monuments, to the romantic Agra with its marvellous Taj Mahal, and Varanasi, the holiest city in India. Visit of Kathmandu, the scenic capital of Nepal.
Day 01: Arrival in Delhi
Upon arrival, meet with our staff for presentations and transfer to hotel for overnight stay.
Day 02: Delhi
Breakfast and proceed for city tour of Old Delhi, external visit of the Red Fort, a UNESCO heritage site, built in 1639 by Emperor Shah Jahan. Visit the imposing Jama Masjid mosque, also commissioned by Shahjahan and completed in 1656. Passing through the 17th century old Chandni Chowk market. Visit of Raj Ghat, where Gandhi was cremated in 1948. Continuation to new Delhi and visit the government building. Stop at India Gate, erected in memory of the Indian soldiers who died in the First World War. Visit of Qutub Minar, a tower of 73 meters, engraved with verses of the Koran, built in 1193 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 03: Delhi / Jaipur (Km.265 - approx 5 hrs)
Morning drive to Jaipur, the "Pink City", the capital of Rajasthan, was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727, the ruler of Amber, which takes its name. Visit the complex of the City Palace, the historic seat of the Maharaja of Jaipur, whose construction began in the sixteenth century by Sawai Jai Singh II and the royal residence still today. Visit the Jantar Mantar, the astronomical observatory, UNESCO site, a set of architectural forms used as astronomical instruments, built by Maharaja Jai Singh II between 1727 and 1734. Walk in the colourful bazar of Jaipur. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 04: Jaipur
After breakfast leave for Amber Fort, whose construction began in 1592 thanks to Raja Man Singh I; in 1592 it was the ancient capital of the state and home to all the Rajput dynasties until the founding of Jaipur. Inside you can find, refined décor with sculptures, mirrors, precious stones. Access the entrance of the fort on elephant back or jeep. Photo stop in front of the magnificent Palace of the winds or Hawa Mahal, built in 1799. Afternoon free for individual initiatives or shopping. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 05: Jaipur / Abhaneri / Fatehpur Sikri / Agra (Km.240 - approx 5 hrs)
Morning drive to Agra, enroute visiting Abhaneri famous for his ancient step well. Lunch at the palace of the Maharaja of Bharatpur. Proceed for Fatehpur Sikri, 40 kms from Agra and built by Emperor Akbar in 1569, to witness the glory of his court; It was abandoned 15 years later, for the lack of water. Its palaces and pavilions are perfectly preserved red sandstone. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 06: Agra
In the morning visit the Red Fort, UNESCO Heritage, the emperor wanted to Akbar in 1565. Visit the royal palaces and the halls of private and public Audiences. Visit the Mausoleum of Etimad-ud-Daula and in the afternoon, the famous Taj Mahal (closed on Friday), Heritage Site, built by Shah Jahan's love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal died in childbirth. Still today the pair lying in a simple crypt. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 07: Agra / Gwalior / Orchha (Km.241 - approx 5 hrs)
Morning transfer to Railway station to board Intercity train for Gwalior. Meet an assist on arrival and proceed city tour of Gwaliort. Founded in the 8th century A.D. and ruled by clans Rajput, Mughal, Maratha and Afghans, it is famous for the historic fortress that dominates for centuries. In the afternoon leave for Orchha. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 08: Orchha / Khajuraho (Km. 180 - approx 4 hrs)
In the morning visit of Orchha, a medieval town, where time has stopped in the palaces and temples built by its Bundela rulers in the 16th and 17th. Visit the city and the the ancient fort with its beautiful Jehangir Mahal, the palace built in 1606 to host king Jehangir. In the afternoon leave for Khajuraho. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 09: Khajuraho / Varanasi (by flight)
Khajuraho was built by the Chandela dynasty, came in power from 10 to the 11th century and retains about 25 temples depicting the different aspects of life, even erotic. In the morning visit the magnificent Jain and Hindu temples, sacred emblems of Indian architecture. In afternoon, transfer to the airport. Flight to Varanasi. In the afternoon visit the archaeological site of Sarnath, one of the largest center of Buddhism in India, where the Buddha preached his first sermon after attaining enlightenment in Bodhgaya (c.528 BC). Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 10: Varanasi / Kathmandu (by flight)
Wake up in the early morning and boat ride on river Ganges to attend the rituals of purification for local and pilgrims, offered during rising sun. Walk in the ancient city that hosts the Golden Temple and the Mosque of Aurangzeb. Later transfer to airport to connect flight for Kathmandu. Upon arrival, meet an assist and transfer to Hotel. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 11: Kathmandu
In the morning excursion to Bhaktapur, rich in valuable sacred monuments. Afternoon Pashupatinath, sacred place for Nepalese, on the banks of the sacred Bagmati river where cremations take place. Visit the wonderful stupa of Boudhanath. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 12: Kathmandu
Breakfast and full day to visit Khatmandu, capital of the ancient mountain kingdom of Nepal, which resembles a medieval city, with labyrinth streets, wooden temples, beautifully decorated palaces, markets, strong scents and colors. Nepal was opened to visitors only in 1950 and today Kathmandu is a mixture of modern technology and traditional lifestyles. Visit of Durbar Square, in front of the Palace of the Child Goddess, Kumari, and the great stupa of Swayambhunath, an ancient religious site of Nepal, known as the Monkey Temple, the construction of which is traced in the early fifth century A.D. In the afternoon, visit the artistic city of Patan, a UNESCO heritage site, probably already existed in the third century BC and characteristic Buddhist monuments and palaces decorated with wood carvings. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 13: Kathmandu / Delhi (by flight)
Morning at leisure. Transfer to Kathmandu international airport to board flight for Delhi. Arrive in Delhi and transfer to Hotel for Dinner. Dinner at hotel and transfer to the international airport.
Day 14: Departure from Delhi
Flight for onward destination.
