Magical Sri Lanka
A magical journey in the tropical island of Sri Lanka, a witness to a very ancient history permeated by an authentic Buddhist soul and a beautiful untouched nature. Varied and sublime landscapes, beautiful beaches that cover 1,330 kilometers of coastline, a cultural heritage of great importance that encompasses as many as 8 sites recognized by UNESCO World Heritage, and 15 protected national parks make this country a very worthwhile place to visit.
Day 01: Arrival in Colombo, Colombo / Dambulla (Km. 135 - about 4 hours)
Arrival in Colombo. Meeting with the staff of our staff for presentations. Transfer to Dambulla and accommodation in hotels. In the afternoon possibility to take part in jeep safari in Minneriya Park (or Kaudulla or Eco Park, depending on the season).
Day 02: Dambulla / Anuradhapura / Dambulla
After breakfast depart for an excursion to Anuradhapura, a World Heritage Site, one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka. The ancient city, consecrated by Buddhist world and surrounded by monasteries covering an area of over 40 square kilometers, is one of the major archaeological sites in the world. In the afternoon, at Dambulla, excursion to visit the magnificent temples carved into the caves and that, lying on top of a hill, are reached after about thirty minutes. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 03: Dambulla / Sigiriya / Polonnaruwa / Dambulla
After breakfast, visit the imposing castle-fortress of Sigiriya (declared World Heritage by UNESCO), that King Kasyapa erected on the rock in the fifth century .. It is accessed by a staircase of a thousand steps built into the rock. Traditional Sri Lankan lunch in a typical local village. In the afternoon, visit Polonnaruwa (also declared World Heritage by UNESCO), the ancient capital between the eleventh and thirteenth centuries d.c. and full of well-preserved examples of the greatness of the first rulers of the kingdom. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 04: Dambulla / Matale / Kandy (Km. 70 - about 1 hour)
After breakfast drive to Kandy, visiting along the way, to a spice plantation in Matale. Lunch. In the afternoon, visit Kandi, whose name means "land in the mountains", the third most sacred city and capital of the Sinhalese kingdom, situated on the shores of a lake at the height of 465 meters above sea level. Sacred place of Buddhism because of the Buddha's tooth relic in Sri Dalada Maligawa, the picturesque temple on the banks of the lake which will be visited along with the marketplace. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 05: Kandy / Peradenya / Nuwara Eliya / Kandy
After breakfast, visit the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens Peradenya, which is also famous for the University which is the second oldest in Sri Lanka with its colonial buildings and Indian style. Departure to Nuwara Eliya. the "little England", situated at 1,896 meters above sea level. On the banks of a lake and whose name means "City of Light". It 'a popular health resort since the British colonial period and in the middle of extensive plantations of tea which we will visit dutante the path to get to the city. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 06: Kandy / Colombo (Km. 115 - about 2 hours)
After breakfast, free morning for individual initiatives. After lunch departure to Colombo. city panorama, Pettah bazaar, in a rich variety of ethnic district, the Fort neighborhood where are concentrated almost all the historical sites, the main districts, government buildings etc. Transfer to the hotel near the airport. After dinner, no overnight. Transfer to the airport and boarding the return night flight in Italy.
Day 07: Departure from Colombo
Boarding on the return flight home.
